My first illustration with V8

What is Midjourney V8?

Midjourney V8 is the eighth generation of Midjourney's text-to-image model, released in 2026. It marks a clear architectural shift from V6.1 — the main differences being significantly more accurate prompt following, higher detail complexity in generated images, and an HD rendering option. It's activated with the --version 8 or --v 8 parameter.

Midjourney V8 – first impressions, straight to the point

Midjourney V8 is out and I couldn't wait — I threw in a bunch of prompts straight away. Here's what I found, honest and fresh.

Frames, frames, frames… and an error

First glance: lots of frames. Second glance: Creation failed. Turns out the --no parameter isn't compatible with --version 8. A minor issue? Technically yes. More annoying than it should be? Absolutely. This is the eighth model — and the same problem keeps showing up like it's some kind of tradition.

"Painting" means a painting on a wall, not a full-frame composition

Be conscious!

If you write painting in your prompt, you'll get a painting — literally: a canvas on a wall or in a frame. Not a full-frame painterly composition like in previous versions. V8 follows prompts very literally, and that's both its strength and a trap for anyone with habits built on earlier models.

Prompt is king — and you can see it immediately

This is where V8 really makes a difference. The model follows prompts noticeably more accurately than its predecessors. The complexity of details appearing in the image has increased significantly — if you describe something in detail, the model will include it. A huge step forward for anyone who knows how to write good prompts.

Burning man!

HD eats through your minutes fast

HD is no joke — GPU minutes disappear really quickly. Watch your budget, because you won't notice when it's gone.

It's a genuinely different model — and you can feel it

Old prompts don't work the same way. V8 isn't an evolution — it's a clear change in approach. You need to adapt. Interestingly, weird is really weird here — too much variety in results can be disorienting, especially when you're trying to get a consistent series of images.

Text in images — finally!

It's not at the level of dedicated models like Ideogram or Flux, but text is readable — and that's already something previous versions of Midjourney simply couldn't do. Issues appear when mixing styles: the model sometimes loses track of what should be text and what should be a graphic element. Likely a matter of the right commands and final model alignment — but the direction is clearly right.

MJ did a mistake! But is still better than the previous one by far.

The speed is impressive

One thing you have to give it without reservation — V8 is really fast. Impressively fast. Generation time has noticeably dropped compared to previous versions and you feel it with every single prompt.

Summary: is it worth switching to V8?

If accurate prompt following and high detail quality matter to you — yes, absolutely. But treat it as a new model, not an update. Old prompts need reworking, keywords behave differently, and HD requires conscious minute management.
